![]() Terminal on JetBrains IDEs (Webstorm, P圜harm, IntelliJ IDEA, PhpStorm, CLion, Rider. I was wondering how you guys use PHPStorm (or any other IntelliJ IDE) with WSL2. Linux Kernel v6.0-rc1 ninja sloth mainline running on WSL2. I will tell you how to setup PHPStorm to debug PHP applications using XDebug and PHP setup over Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on WSL2. Windows 10 does not support the PhpStorm protocol and therefore you will not be able to open PhpStorm given the link from Ray. functionally everything works but it still feels a bit clunky. Having to open PHPStorm on the command line, fuzzy fonts and icons. So far this seems to be the best option but it still doesn't feel right to me. The last thing I tried is install PHPStorm inside WSL2 and run the GUI with x410. Still having high hopes for WSL2g so lets wait for any updates. I tried the synchronize files with network share option in PHPStorm, this works great when I change a file and the file automatically get uploaded to the share but when files changes on the server I have to manually download them to the local files which is not really an improvement for my workflow. I have never had such problems with PhpStorm on Windows, native linux or even on WSL2 with VcXsrv. I often develop packages and I don't like having to wait on indexing the vendor folder all the time. This works but the indexing is really slow when working with composer and the vendor folder. Install PHPStorm natively on Windows 10 and point it to the project files on the \\wsl$ share. The only thing that bothers me is PHPStorm. I have WSL2 running with docker and it works great. ![]() (more) Roman Pronskiy PhpStorm 2020.1.2 Preview The preview build for PhpStorm 2020.1.2 is available. And as Apple has been ignoring developers and MacOS itself for the last 5 years, and Linux is still riddled with the same problems it has had for 20 years, the options for developers are becoming less and less.I have always developed on Mac and Linux before but now I have to work on Windows 10. WSL 2 JPhpStorm 2020.1.2 is released PhpStorm 2020.1.2 is now available This second minor update for PhpStorm 2020.1 introduces support for WSL 2 and also contains important bug fixes. I've been trying to find a non-Apple solution for a decade, and it just doesn't exist. If you're locked to a Windows laptop because of your employee's IT rules, it's better than nothing, but not optimal, and I wonder why people are so excited for WSL2 when VMs that have more features have been around for over a decade. I've used Linux VMs on Windows before - VMWare Workstation has been around for over a decade and has a lot of bells and whistles that make the experience tolerable, but again, the IO is too slow to share Windows and Linux apps between filesystems, so you're basically forced to develop 100% in the VM, IDE included. would grind Jetbrains on Windows to a halt as it simply couldn't sync with the project files on Linux due to slow IO. Trying to use a polyglot project with a bunch of Java, Scala, Go, various plugins like DB views, etc. The last thing I tried is install PHPStorm inside WSL2 and run the GUI with x410. I tried this on WSL1 and it absolutely didn't work for any project larger than the typical Hello World example.
